Think you have been ripped off by a Locksmith?

If you are having work done by a locksmith and they charge you substantially higher than what you were quoted when they finish the job, "DO NOT PAY THEM" and "CALL 911". Most consumers think they can't do anything about Phony Locksmith or think they have to pay, but the fact is you have rights under the consumer protection laws and if what they are charging you is different from what you were told then you can dispute this on the spot. If you get threatened, call 911 to get the police out ASAP. You also need to file a complaint against them with the AG and consumer protection agency.

The best way to avoid this issue is to make sure they are accredited with the BBB with a B+ or better rating. You can also use web sites like findalocksmith.com or legallocksmith.com to avoid the scammers. The locksmiths on those sites have been screened and deemed legitimate locksmiths.

One last thing, Make sure you get a firm quote before they start the work so there is no misunderstanding or surprise when the work is done. Phony locksmiths like you to be in the dark so they will give you very soft figures and hope you don't probe further.

pop a lock is the worst company to work for as a tech. which makes the customer suffer. the techs spend 1200 a month on gas plus 2 oil changes and whatever damages occur to their own vehicle from over use. then all techs(even roadside techs) are forced to go through unlocking training which they charge you 1200 for without informing you and they also dont let you know you must pay for all damages to customer cars which a real company has insurance for. so you might make 200 a week(thats the most i could make) other techs would owe money every payday and others are homeless(live in their car) to be able to afford to work there. the training consists of being yelled at and pushed around so you dont learn anything and a lot of damage is done on customer cars when they actually get a chance to try and unlock a car. then they wont give you your last check

What Mark said is true. A good place to go to find a licensed locksmith in your state and city is www.FindaLocksmith.com

As far as working for Pop-A-Lock, its hard work for very little pay. I worked for Pop-A-Lock in 2005 for about three months until my 21 year old truck broke down. I needed a new engine. I put about 1,000 miles on it in about 30 days. Lots of driving for little pay. I got about $12 for each lockout and about $8 for each jump start, each tire change, and each gas delivery. And the customer didn't want to pay for the gas so I got stuck with the $5 gas bill. Before I quit, I was working 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. All the techs in my area quit or called in sick. They need to pay Pop-A-Lock techs more money and less money to the office staff and owner. After all the techs are bringing in the money not the owner or staff. Think about it, new owner of Pop=A=Lock in Portland, Oregon!!
